William A. Harding, 90, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Scotia Village.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Michael Malpass. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Born September 6, 1931 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Ozro and Marie Chavis Harding. He was a farmer in the pine straw business, and owner operator of Harding Trucking Co. and Harding Used Furniture on Main Street. He was always helping others and was a self-made man. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and NC State Beekeepers Association.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Harding Phillips (Stephen) of Angier; sisters, Juanita Bowen of Laurinburg, Helen Lupo of Aberdeen, Lois Suttle of Pinehurst, Millie Covington of Greensboro, Betty Chavis of Laurinburg and Gerri Graham of Bennettsville, SC; grandsons, David W. Phillips of Pembroke and Stephen Ronald Phillips Jr. (Sarah) of Christiansburg, VA; and great-grandson’s, Charles Oliver Phillips and Jack William Phillips of Christiansburg, VA. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Barbara Harding, Lucille Brunsvold and Foster Harding.
