William Thomas "Tommy" Chappell

William Thomas “Tommy” Chappell, 72, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020 at Atrium Health Cabarrus of Concord.

Due to inclement weather, a service will be held Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service Chapel, Troy officiated by Rev. Hawk Owens and Rev. Ricky Chappell.  Private interment will follow at Lomax Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, please practice social distancing and all attendees must wear a mask or face covering. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home’s Facebook page. The family will receive friends after the service and other times at the home.

Born March 19, 1948 in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Elijah Wiley and Dorothy Kiger Chappell. He was a retiree of the NC Department of Transportation.

Tommy is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Martha Kay Dennis Chappell of the home; one son, Elvis Lee Chappell (Pam) of Troy; two daughters, Angela K. Chrisco of Troy and Crystal Lynn Smith (Tommy) of Denton; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Rev. Ricky Chappell of Sanford, Roney Chappell (Judy) of Troy and Jimmy Chappell (Barbara) of Candor; and one sister, Deloris Morse (Harold) of Mt. Gilead.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Marie Mauldin and two brothers, J.C. Chappell and Tony Chappell; and one great-grandson, Canaan Downey.
