Walter M. Lowery, 79, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Morrison Manor.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Gray Pond Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Horace Oxendine. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Due to Covid-19, all attendees are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing when possible.
Born January 19, 1942 in Robeson County, he was the son of the late Walter and Norma Lee Harris Lowery. Mr. Lowery was a supervisor in the textile industry. He was one of the first Tribal Council Members of the Lumbee Tribe, District 12 in Scotland County. He loved farming, golf and the outdoors. His best buddy was his dog, Charlie.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Genell Oxendine Lowery of the home; two sons, Christopher Fitzgerald Lowery and Roger Dale Lowery, both of Laurinburg; two step-daughters, Bobbie Ann Morton (Jeff) of Fayetteville and Melinda Ruth Stumpp (Chris) of Liberty; three brothers, Carl Dean Clark (Ramona Jean) of Laurinburg, John Lewis Lowery (Dr. JoAnn) of Pembroke and Marcus Lowery (Pam) of Cary; two sisters, Linda Bullard of Pembroke and Barbara Strickland of Maxton; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
