Born on October 3, 1947, in Marlboro County, SC, he was the son of the late, John Colon and Annie Smith Locklear.
He spent his career as a laborer in the upholstery business, where he became known as the number one upholsterer to his family. His interests extended beyond his work, as he was a true fan of NASCAR and wrestling. He was a big part of his wife's family as well, embracing them with open arms and a warm heart. Rawhide was a "cut up," always ready with a joke or a funny story to share with those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lenora Locklear of the home; his daughter, Shandell Locklear of Fayetteville; his grandchildren, Shanessa and Kershawn; brothers, George Clark of Maxton and Marcus Locklear of Laurinburg; sisters, Brenda Strickland, Nancy Locklear, and Rose Locklear, all of Laurinburg, and Mary Locklear of Maxton; and his favorite cousin, Percy Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ledford Smith and John Samuel Locklear.
Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium is assisting the Locklear family.
