Steven "Steve" Gooch Obituary

Steven “Steve” Revell Gooch, 73, of Troy, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 peacefully in his sleep with family by his side.

A military honored funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Ophir United Methodist Church, where he was a member, officiated by Rev. Glenn Hancock and Rev. Bill Knapp. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm and other times at his residence. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, please practice social distancing.

Steve was born on July 4, 1947 to the late Dock Otis and Hazel Revell Gooch. He was a Montgomery County native, and a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1966 to 1968, with thirteen months in Germany as Military Police. Steve was retired from his own business, Gooch Drywall.

Steve was a family man who loved their annual family Gooch fishing and beach trips, and their family July 4th fish fry, celebrating him and our independence. He enjoyed trips to Cherokee, scratch offs, and especially loved Nascar and fishing. Steve was a man of his word and gladly did so much for so many. He will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived by his son, David Gooch (Talitha); daughter, Jantzen Gooch (Justin); granddaughters, Dagen Hussey and Sammi Overton, whom he cherished and loved dearly; brother, Richard Gooch; and sisters, Janie Morgan of Eldorado, Linda Karriker and Kaye Norris. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Norris Gooch; brothers, Brownie Gooch, Bill Gooch, Reginald Gooch, Phillip Gooch; and sisters, Brenda Maness and Shelby Jean Gooch.
