Steven “Steve” Floyd Fletcher, age 69, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at his residence.
A private funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Bob Wray.
Born January 9, 1951 in Warren County, he is the son of Jean Fletcher Fields of Henderson, NC and the late Floyd F. Fletcher, Jr. Steve earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education on May 8, 1977 at Pembroke State University and his Master of Arts in Education on May 6, 1989 at Pembroke State University. He taught school for 30 years in Robeson County as well as in Marlboro County for three years. He was a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators where he held positions at the local level and was on the executive council as an area representative and was a school representative. Steve was still active with NCAE after retirement and was a life-long member. He enjoyed caring for his plants in his greenhouse, an antique collector and was an actor in the outdoor drama “Strike at the Wind” for several years in the 1980’s.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan McColl (James) and Frances Wyland (Jeremy) both of Laurinburg; brothers Jan Fletcher (Linda) and Gary Fletcher (Janice) all of Henderson, NC; sister Sharon Fletcher Dixon (Spike) of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Sarah Morgan McColl, James David McColl, II, Lillian “Lilly” Nicole Wyland and Lincoln Wayne Wyland; and he was a uncle an great uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his former wife, Linda McRae Fletcher.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the cemetery fund at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 11360 Fairway Drive, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
