Shirley (Wade) Godfrey

Shirley Wade Godfrey, 78, of Laurinburg, North Carolina, passed away on September 20 after a brief illness. She was born on April 2, 1945 to Gladys and B. Earl Wade.

The family will have a memorial service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 23, 2023 at St Luke United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Jerome Smith.

Shirley taught middle-school math and science for many years. She was a longtime and active member of Saint Luke United Methodist Church. In both roles, she advocated for an inclusive, welcoming community. She loved the annual Godfrey-Wilson beach trips, family gatherings, and all of the neighborhood cats.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Peggy Wade Griffiths and cousin Matthew Ragsdale. She is survived by her husband Ronald, daughter Veronica Deak (Terry), stepmother Emma, cousins Kathy Ragsdale (Murphy), Ann Hutton (Jim), Barbara West (Jim), Amy Kaminski (Aaron), Kathryn Burr (Cory), Anna Ragsdale, Madelyn Ragsdale, and James Burr.

Shirley loved flowers, but would prefer donations to Saint Luke United Methodist Church, 1501 Turnpike Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352 or the Scotland County Humane Society, 12340 McColl Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
