Sheila Coppin Obituary

Sheila Armstrong, 65, of Laurinburg, NC passed away on March 7, 2023 in Pinehurst, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on March 13, 2023 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium located at 305 E Church St. Laurinburg, NC.

A famous writer once said “A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.” If that is true, then Sheila made a great life for herself and people around her. Even with her dialysis and other challenges she was always hopeful, determined and gritty as ever.

Sheila was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 13th, 1957. She was the second child of Lealer Mae Armstrong and John W. Armstrong. Sheila has one sister, Wanda Doreen; three brothers, John who is deceased, Eric and Arnold; and God sister, Sharon Maultsby. All of which grew up in and around the Albany projects in Brooklyn, New York. She attended public school at PS 243, where she blossomed in as a young person who was very intelligent and loving. She had so many close friends. She graduated from high school and went to The College for Fashion Design. She later went to work at the post office where she made her career.

Sheila later married Charles Coppin and gave birth to two sons, Brandon and Devin Coppin.  She moved to the Poconos where she and Charles raised their family. Within a couple of years, they realized that moving to North Carolina would be better for her health.  Naturally some of her friends moved their too.

Sheila was a great inspiration for everyone, true love of God and her faith, she was always there for everyone and was always truthful and willing to help. She was an amazing daughter, sister, friend, wife, and mother.

Sheila is preceded in death by Lealer Mae Armstrong, John W. Armstrong, and her brother, John (Junior) Armstrong, and nephew Shannen Dowden.

Sheila is survived by Charles Coppin, Brandon Coppin, Devin Coppin, Eric Armstrong, Arnold Armstrong, Wanda Dowden, God sister Marie Maultsby, her grandson Kingston Coppin, best friends Debbie Matthews, Geraldine Littles, Dorothy Matthew’s, Janet Sasser and a host of family, relatives, friends and acquaintances. Sheila will truly be missed by many. I will not say goodbye, but I will see you later.

Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium is assisting the family.
