Ricky Daniel Batten, 61, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022 at his sister’s residence.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at Jim Matheney Auditorium at Montgomery Central High School, officiated by Tony Sedberry, Rev. Chip Bryant, Rev. Steven Cline, and Rev. Shawn Hassell. Burial will follow in the First Wesleyan Church Cemetery in Troy.
Born November 14, 1960 in Randolph County, he is a son of Ella Greene Batten and the late Jonah Daniel Batten. Ricky graduated from East Montgomery High School Class of 1979 and started out working with Montgomery County EMS on October 2, 1981; which later became FirstHealth on September 1, 1996. He became certified as a paramedic in 1989 and was a volunteer with Montgomery County Rescue Squad having been a member for 31 years and served in the capacity as Sergeant. Ricky also volunteered for the Emergency Medical Rescue in Star for 11 years. He also served as Montgomery County Medical Examiner for a number of years. Ricky’s biggest legacy is his love for people and always committed to his beliefs as quoted in the Ten Commandments, Matthew 22:37-39, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Ricky loved his boys and grandchildren, along with his loving pets, Leonard and Lucy. He was the best hugger and always had a firm handshake when greeting people.
He is survived by his sons, Ricky Daniel Batten, Jr. (Jessica) of Troy, Nicholas Alexander Batten of the home, and Kameron Andrew Batten (Fiancée Savannah Duty) of Mt. Gilead; Kasey Batten; sisters, Phyllis Cornelison (Jerry), and Becky Hall (Richard) both of Biscoe, Louise Hussey of Robbins, and Lisa Tedder (Steve) of Troy; brother, David Batten (Denise) of Asheboro; grandchildren, Ricky Daniel Batten, III, Breanna Daniel Batten, Lydia Cheyanne Batten, Haevyn Emerie Batten, and Syrus Batten; step-son, Thomas Charles Yarboro (Megan); and step-grandson, Augusta Yarboro.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
