Mary Ann (Locklear) Brewer

Mary Ann Locklear Brewer, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Highland Baptist Church in Vass, officiated by Dr. Bill Vaughn and Pastor Tracy Gross.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 – 4:00 PM at the church.

She was born on January 29, 1946, in Robeson County to the late Junie and Carrie Mae Hunt Locklear and lived a life filled with love, kindness, and generosity.

Mary Ann devoted her life to her loved ones and her work. She spent 20 years as a Quality Control Inspector with Perdue.  Later she found joy in the kitchen as a cook at the Pik-N-Pig in Carthage, where her food was loved by many.

Her dedication extended to her involvement in the Highland Baptist Church. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she served her church with a selfless spirit that touched all who knew her. She found comfort and joy in her faith, often sharing it with those around her.

She loved caring for her chickens and collecting their eggs, an activity that brought her immense joy and satisfaction. She also had a particular fondness for watching hummingbirds, their delicate beauty and swift movements captivating her. Above all, her love for her Lord, her church, and her grandchildren were the pillars of her life.

Mary Ann's loving and kind nature made her a beacon of light in the lives of many. Her generous spirit was evident in her everyday actions, from her work in the community to her time spent with her family. She was a woman of strength, faith, and unending love, qualities that were apparent to all who knew her.

She leaves behind her son, Steven Brewer (Meletha) of Carthage; her daughter, Rosemary Hunt of Georgia; her sister, Kathy Stanley of Laurinburg; her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Reggie Brewer; her children, Joe Wesley Hunt, Jr., Ruth Payne and Jonathan Lee Brewer; and her siblings, Samuel Locklear, Marshall Locklear, Rachael Locklear, and Linda Wooten.
