Martha Black Mullinix, 77, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at her residence.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Uwharrie United Methodist Church of which she was a member, officiated by Rev. William Saunders and Rev. Glenn Hancock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the church prior to the service. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, please practice social distancing and wear a face mask or another form of face covering.
Born January 27, 1944 in Anson County, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Mary Aycock Black. Mrs. Mullinix was a retired teacher of Norwood Elementary where she had 30 years of service with Stanly County Schools. She enjoyed teaching and kept up with her student’s years through the years. She made sure each student in her classroom received a Christmas present. Martha had a green thumb, she loved her knock out rose bushes and gerber daisies. She was especially known for growing large tomatoes, her dilled pickles, green beans, and making sourdough bread. Martha was an excellent cook, and looked forward to serving BBQ for the fire department, and helping out in her community. She was very active in her church, and enjoyed singing in the choir. Her and her husband enjoyed doing everything together, including working on their farm, and fishing together. Mrs. Mullinix loved her brothers and sisters dearly, as well as her cats, especially “Goldie.”
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Johnny Mullinix, of the home; son, Darren Preslar (Melissa Atkinson) of Norwood; special son, Tony Casavant of Albemarle; three grandchildren, Wyatt Preslar, Declan Preslar, and Miles Preslar; two brothers, Nat Black and David Black of Anson County; three sisters, Judi Kimrey of Norwood, Robin Shaver and Susan Keever both of Albemarle. She is preceded in death by brothers, Joe Black, Bennett Black, and Kent Black.
