Joseph "Joe" Alexander Whitley

Joseph "Joe" Alexander Whitley, 80, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Biscoe, officiated by Rev. Mike Greene. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

Born October 5, 1942, in Montgomery County, to the parents of the late Thelbert Columbus, Jr. and Essie Alexander Whitley. Joe was a man of service, dedicating his life to the safety and well-being of his community. He served as the former Police Chief in Troy and Mt. Gilead and was the former Fire Chief of Mt. Gilead Fire Department. Joe had also served as a guard at Southern Correctional Institution in Troy. Joe enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. However, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family. He cherished these moments and they were the highlight of his life.

Joe is survived by his girlfriend, Vonnie Martin of the home; his daughter, Lisa Whitley Jordan of Fayetteville; and his son, Jason Whitley of Troy; sisters, Judy Harris of Troy, and Linda Lee of Norwood; and grandchildren, Carter, Dereck, and Mackey.
