Jerry Franklin Hurley, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Memorial Independent Baptist Church in Troy, officiated by Pastor H.C. Bowman and Pastor Arlen Johnson. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Born April 24, 1941, in Randolph County, he was the son of the late Lacy Franklin and Alice Saunders Hurley. Jerry was a devout and active member of Grace Memorial Independent Baptist Church. His love for his church family was reciprocated by all who knew him, and his absence will be deeply felt. Jerry's professional life was marked by his dedication to education and his passion for automobiles. He was a founding member of the auto technology program at West Montgomery High School, a program he served for 25 years. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jerry could often be found playing his guitar and fiddle. Jerry enjoyed gardening, a hobby that brought him great peace and satisfaction. Above all, Jerry treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren. His love for them was boundless, and he cherished every moment he was able to spend with them.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mitzi Gail Griffin Hurley of the home; sons, Ken Hurley (Sharon) of Troy, Randy Hurley (Lori), and Chris Hurley (Christy), both of Asheboro; daughter, Gale Boles (Mike) of Madison; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Stephanie, Sydney, Carter, Gavin, Nick, Ellis, Luke, Morgan, and Quinn; and great-grandchildren, Lainey and Noel. He is preceded in death by his son, Jerry F. Hurley, Jr. and daughter, Donna.
