Jerry Bulla Holder, 69, of Asheboro, died peacefully on Friday April 16, at the Hospice House of Randolph County, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.
The family is planning a private celebration of life at a later date.
Jerry was born in Troy on November 22, 1951, son of the late R.C and Helen Holder. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen Galloway Holder; and his two daughters, Amy Holder Ellington (husband Chad) and Brooke Holder Davis (husband Bryan). He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Jackson Holder Ellington (19), Thomas Chadwick Ellington (17), Taylor Elizabeth Davis (15), Julia Lee Ellington (15); and his brother Randolph Clinton Holder. He also left behind his beloved dog Lilly and cats Patches and Oscar.
Jerry was a loving husband to his wife Jo Ellen, and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Jerry was a devoted father to his two daughters, Amy and Brooke. He was most proud of being “Papa Bear” to his four grandchildren, who are the apple of his eye. One thing that was always a certainty; if the kids were playing sports, in a performance or an event, he would be there. He was their biggest supporter and their number one fan.
From the age of 18, Jerry was a builder and spent his life in the profession that he loved. As the founder of Jerry Holder Construction, Inc., he used his eye for detail, and attention to perfection to continue his love of building. Later as Senior Vice President/Chief Operations Officer at Klaussner Furniture, he shared his knowledge of building and traveled the world to select quality materials for the company. Jerry was also President/Co-Owner of Sandy Ridge Assisted Living in Candor.
In his younger years, Jerry was a volunteer firefighter and Assistant Chief at Troy Fire Department. He loved spending summers at Lakewood Campground with his “girls” and riding his Harley’s with friends. After his grandkids were born, Jerry loved to travel with his family and found his greatest joys on Disney Cruises, at Disney World or at their house at Ocean Isle Beach. Many wonderful memories were made at “The Farm” where he designed a beautiful homestead for all of his family to enjoy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Jerry B. Holder to the Hospice House of Randolph County, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203 or to the North Carolina Zoological Society, 4403 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, NC, 27205.
