Jennings Ray Lewis, 66, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Biscoe.

Born March 10, 1954 at Lenoir County, the son of the late Jennings Burton Lewis of Troy. Ray attended West Montgomery High School where he was on the track team and played football. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandy Mabry of Mt. Gilead. They were married for thirty-three years and raised a son together. For the past fifteen years they have been very good friends.
Ray started out in construction. At one time, he and his son had a business, Lewis and Son Drywall. In 1976, he went to work with Lance Inc. At one time he was in the top ten salesmen in the country with Lance. His father, JB Lewis died in 1979 and Ray was offered his route and the family moved back to Montgomery County. After working with Lance, Ray went to work for Bill Maness at Burgess Maness. In 1994 Ray decided to start his own business, Lewis Recycling of Biscoe with his son. Ray loved fishing, quail hunting, NASCAR, raising cattle and playing cards.
He is survived by one son, Jennings Benjamin Lewis (Danielle Nicholl Lewis) of Troy; one brother, Terence “Terry” Bryon Lewis (Cheryl) of Rockingham; and one granddaughter, Peyton Nicholl Lewis of Troy whom he adored. She could put a smile on his face any day or night; and his nephew, Jake of Rockingham. In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his younger brother, Ike and his younger sister, Theresa.
Ray will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Ray was one of a kind.
