James Ander "Uncle Cotton/Pops" Andrews peacefully departed this life on Saturday, June 25th, 2022 at his home with his son, Todd, by his side. He was 86 years old.
There will be a celebration of Cotton's life and passions at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in the chapel of Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium at 620 Albemarle Rd. in Troy, NC. The family will receive friends Monday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Cotton was born on Saturday, June 13, 1936 to Earl Andrews and Ida Andrews Hamilton in Pee Dee (Montgomery County), NC. He began his working years with Sonoco Paper Company and after moving to NC in 1980 he began his careers with Collins & Aikman Automotive Upholstery and Brown's Mowers. Also known to many as "Pops", he was a faithful in attending the Montgomery County Senior Citizens Activities as long as his health allowed. Cotton lived every day to the fullest and had many interests, including building and flying r/c model airplanes, riding both bicycles and motorcycles, camping, boating, hunting, shooting his bow, and skiing with his family. You could really see the excitement in his eyes when his "buddy" (son Todd) was coming to town.
To cherish his memory Cotton leaves with us his wife of 65 years, Elaine Sweeney Andrews, two sons, James Andrews of Worchester, MA and Todd Andrews and wife, Pamela of Toms River, NJ; granddaughters, Tracey Sincavage and Nicole Yeager; great-grandchildren, John, Katelin, and TJ; brothers, Jesse Andrews (Pam) of Bristol, TN, Floyd Andrews (Lib) of Robbins, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Mr. Andrews was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David Andrews and Mark Andrews; brothers, Charles Andrews, Therman Andrews and Jack Andrews; four sisters, including a twin, Janie Dunn, as well as sisters, Virginia Parsons, Betty Ann Hulin, and Ruby Johnson.
The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to great-niece, Charlene Null, who was his constant caregiver and his niece, Betty Andrews. They would also like to thank First Health Hospice nurses, Janice and Selena for their compassion and care.
