Grady Zeno Goforth, 87, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at his residence in Candor.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Holly Mount Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Hall and Rev. Joe Beane officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, please practice social distancing.
Grady was born July 8, 1933 to the late Julius B. and Etta Kerley Goforth. A man of his word who did not compromise his principles, he lived a life of service to God, his family, and fellow man. Grady was a Sunday school teacher and lay speaker, as well as a Deacon of Holly Mount Baptist Church and a youth leader at Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a Boy Scout Leader, earning the silver beaver award.... highest award for volunteers, but proudest of the individual lives he touched in scouting. Grady was always ready to help his fellow man and was involved in many civic activities: building handicapped ramps for the elderly, documenting cemeteries and their history throughout Montgomery County, and contributing to scholarship funds at Montgomery Community College, especially scholarships to fellow boy scouts attending MCC.
He was a US Army Veteran, and donated over sixty pints of blood to the American Red Cross during his life time. Grady was a volunteer for the Candor Fire Department and ambulance service. A man of many interests, he was a graduate of DeVry Institute, Anson Community College, and he was also a graduate of UNC Greensboro.
Grady is survived by his sons, David (Rene) Goforth of Rockwell, NC and Dale (Renita) Goforth of Troy, NC; daughters, Bonita (Gray) Johnson of Greensboro, NC and Belinda (Bill) Stuart of Candor, NC; seven grandsons and two great-grandchildren. They will cherish fond memories of his life and the stories he told. He is preceded in death by his wife Alvis P. Goforth of 60 years; his daughter Bonnie Knox; grandson, Zachary Goforth; brothers, Ralph, Ronda, Glenn, and Glade; and sister Ruth Greene.
