Faye (Harris) Atkins

Faye Harris Atkins, age 80, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2023, at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Love Joy Church Arbor with Pastor Mark Atkins officiating.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the Arbor one hour prior to the service.

Born on July 4, 1942, in Montgomery County, Faye was the daughter of the late Frank Patterson Harris and Nell Batten Harris.

Faye dedicated 30 years of service to Gilead Manufacturing Co. and owned Dry Clean Express in Troy for several years. Her strong work ethic and commitment were evident in everything she did. Faye's interests were as diverse as her talents. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed needlecraft art. Her love for cooking and flowers brought joy to many.   She lovingly cared for both her mother and her mother-in-law, setting an example of compassion and selflessness for all who knew her. Throughout her life, Faye offered love and support to many children, forging a special bond with Jeremy Haywood and Amy Haywood Callicutt. In her final days, Mark Atkins’ and Edith Atkins’ love and presence brought her comfort and peace.

Faye is survived by her loving daughters, Lynne Atkins Russell (Doc) and Tina Atkins, both of Troy; her cherished grandson, Robert "Robby" Lee Walsh, IV of Nashville, TN; her brother, William "Butch" Donald Harris (Pam) of Norwood; her sister, Gay Nelle Harris Morris of Mt. Pleasant; special friend, Shane Sherer of Troy; her bonus daughter, Melanie Bumgarner of Laurinburg; her beloved pet, Peggy Marie; and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Doyle Mitchell Atkins; her brothers, John Patterson Harris and Franklin Ross Harris; and her sisters, Peggy Geraldine Harris Callicutt and Mary Elizabeth Harris Medlin.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Michelle Hunsucker and Mae Moore, as well as the staff at Pinehurst DaVita, Reid Heart Center, and the Neuro Critical Care Unit at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, for their exceptional care and support.
