Erick Donavon “Don” Patterson, 84, of Maxton, went to his eternal home Friday evening, May 31, 2019. He was born June 21, 1934 in Robeson County, a son of the late James Weaver and Cuma Wright Patterson. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Weaver Patterson, Jr., and his sister Brownie Patterson Speros.
Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His life was centered around his love of the Lord, his family, and his community. Don was humble, compassionate, thankful, and reverent. He exemplified strength of character, steadfast convictions, and sense of duty.
He graduated from Maxton High School and attended Presbyterian Junior College. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the North Carolina National Guard. Don completed a forty year career with the United States Postal Service. He served as a rural mail carrier and was recognized for driving over one million miles free of accidents.
Don was a lifelong member of Centre Presbyterian Church, and served as an elder, deacon, and treasurer for the congregation. For his dedication and contributions to the church, he was honored as an Elder Emeritus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Peggy Adcock Patterson; son and daughter-in-law, Erick “Ricky” and Tiffany Patterson of Louisburg; son, Robert Patterson of Charlotte; granddaughter, Dr. Hilary Patterson of Louisburg; brother, Leon Patterson (Lavinia) of Raeford; sisters, Jean Patterson Beardsley (James) of Toledo, OH and Mildred Patterson Dickens of Maxton; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, June 3, 2019 at Centre Presbyterian Church in Maxton, with visitation prior to the service from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Graveside service will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
