Edwin "Whit" Whitfield McMillan, Sr.

Edwin Whitfield “Whit” McMillan, Sr., 85, passed away on Monday February 8, 2021 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.

Services will be private.

Born on November 1, 1935 in Wagram NC, he was the son of the late Albert Reynolds McMillan, Sr. and Effie Gillis McMillan. He attended Presbyterian Junior College and served in the United States Army at Fort Jackson, SC, where he worked in post finance and was a left-handed pitcher for the post baseball team.  He had a long and varied working career in manufacturing, auto repair, and land maintenance.  Whit enjoyed working in his large garden and tinkering in his shop and greenhouse. He loved spending time with his family and particularly taking his children and grandchildren fishing or walking in the woods. 

He is survived by his son, Whit McMillan, Jr. and wife Dorian; daughter, Kathryn McMillan Benton and husband, Jim; three grandchildren, Tanner, Laurel, and Sam Benton; two brothers, Spurgeon McMillan and Lauch McMillan; sister, Jane McMillan; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Tyra Sue McMillan, brother, Albert Reynolds McMillan, Jr. and sister, Effie McMillan Parsons.
