Doris Jean (Manship) Smart

Doris Manship Smart of Laurinburg passed away at age 84, Friday, July 21, 2023 in Laurinburg, North Carolina.

A family celebration of life will be held privately. Location and date to be determined.

Born September 28, 1938 in Scotland County, she was a loving daughter of the late Bruce P. Manship and Allene Hester Manship. Doris and her husband Bedford Dunkley Smart owned and operated the Honey Cone Drive In back in the 60’s and 70’s. She then began working for the Scotland County Inspection Department where she retired in 2007. After retirement she was an active volunteer at Scotland Regional Hospice.

Doris was a loving mother, sister, and friend. Her ability to love without condition, to serve without expectation, and to lead with integrity made her an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She enjoyed baking cakes, planting flowers, and gardening. She loved her fur baby Baxter very much. He brought so much happiness and comfort to her.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherryl Smart Byrd of Raeford, and Susan Smart McLean (Dub) of Laurinburg; sister, Margaret Manship (Robin) of Laurinburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bedford Dunkley Smart; son, Bedford Dunkley Smart Jr.; and brother, Jimmy Manship.
