Charles "Bubbie" Robinson Obituary

Charles Alvin “Bubbie” Robinson, passed into Heaven on January 25, 2021.  He was born February 20, 1926 to Frank and Lydia Batten Robinson while the family briefly lived in Randolph County before returning to Troy.  His father called him “Brother”, but his toddler sister pronounced this “Bubbie” and that nickname remained for the rest of his life.

A graveside service with masonic rites will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Southside Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Vanlene Nelson. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, please practice social distancing and wear a mask or another form of face covering.  Bubbie will lie in state at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service from 9:00 – 12:00 pm Saturday.

A born merchant, he often sold seeds, berries, and candy as a boy, and at age 14, took a part-time job as a “check boy” at B.C. Moore & Sons in Troy.  After graduating from Troy High School in 1943, he began working full-time at B.C. Moore’s and this would become a 65-year career that made him an iconic figure in the Company and in downtown Troy.  He was blessed to work in an organization with Christian leadership he considered family.  He assembled a group of outstanding people that “waited on” customers from Montgomery and surrounding counties for decades.  He appreciated his customers and never lost his remarkable memory of so many over the years.

Bubbie was a man of faith and a lifelong Baptist.  He delivered grace before meals in a formal, reverent manner and he did not rely on a hymnal when singing the standards on Sunday mornings.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy and was a 32nd
Degree Scottish Rite Freemason and member of Troy Lodge 718.

He enjoyed the quietness of a walk in the woods, but also saw opportunity and appreciated the blessings of a timber harvest.  He was loyal to his childhood street, but also saw opportunity and improved it.  He loved his numerous pets over the years, he loved his station wagons, but above all he loved his family and focused his energy in all he did toward providing for them.

He was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 76 years, Frances Overton Robinson; his parents; step-mother, Odessa Brooks Robinson; sisters, Elgie R. Deaton and Grace R. Shaw and son-in-law, James McGuirt. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela R. McGuirt of Clinton, and Annette R. Kilby (Alvin) of Monroe; son, Charles D. Robinson of Troy; five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
