Charles Richardson Chavis

Charles Richardson Chavis, 68, of Gibson, passed away on November 8, 2023, at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

A funeral service will be held at Gibson Pentecostal Holiness Church on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Preacher Ricky Stubbs.  Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery in Gibson.

He was born on October 28, 1955, in Scotland County, to the late Belton and Mary Ellen Locklear Chavis. 

Charles loved riding his moped and working in the chicken farms. He also enjoyed painting and collecting Tonka toys. 

He is survived his daughter, Shevonda Chavis of Laurinburg; sisters, Catherine Chavis Deberry (Terry) and Annie Chavis Taylor (Bill) both of Gibson; his brothers, William Howard Chavis (Barbara) of Gibson, Belton Lee Chavis (Janet) of Laurinburg, and James Edward Chavis of Gibson; three grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and special friends, T.G. Gibson of Gibson Farms and Dorothy Locklear of Pembroke. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 11 years, Darhonda Sweat Chavis.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium.
