Carolyn Gray Kern Dunn, 90, of Mebane, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Hospice & Palliative Care in Burlington. Prior to her passing, she had lived with her daughter for the past 8 years.
A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2018 at Shady Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Star, officiated by Rev. Tracy Gross. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born February 15, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Theodore Kermit and Laura Bell Freeman Kern. She was a very giving and loving person that would give you her last dollar if you needed it. She worked at hosiery mills in Montgomery County and also at Capel Rug Mill in Troy. She loved to write poetry and some of her poems were published. She was nominated for poet laureate, and had the opportunity to go to Las Vegas where the contest was held. She recited her poem for Bob Hope and Red Buttons who were officiating the ceremony. It was a thrill for her to have that opportunity. She also wrote a Sonnet that she dedicated to her father.
She is survived by her children, Max Richard Dunn of Candor, Steven Douglas Dunn of Jacksonville, FL and Roma Dunn Lloyd of Mebane; her siblings, Nona Ruth Kern Maness of Star, Victory Anne Kern Cranford of Asheboro, Laura Linda Kern Beane of Mt. Gilead and David Rex Kern of Asheboro; ten grandchildren, twelve great grand children and two great great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Max Dunn, son, Ronald Gene Dunn, sisters, Agnes Louise Kern and Norma Lee Kern Webb and her brother, Leon Kermit Kern.
McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium of Laurinburg is serving the family.
