Betty (Horne) Pierce

Betty Horne Pierce passed from this life on September 27, 2023, at Morrison Manor Hospice Care Facility in Laurinburg, NC.  Born in Laurinburg on July 8, 1939, she was the only child of the late Efrid and Connie Horne.   

Surviving her, are her husband of 66 years, James “Cooter” Pierce; two sons, Ronald (Deborah) and Tim (Annette); and daughter, Jill Helms (Charles); five grandchildren, Rebecca, Ryan (Bridgett), and Nolan (fiancé Kaitlyn Howard), and Bethany and Zachary Helms; and one great grandchild Jolee Rose Pierce. 

Betty was an active member of the Laurinburg community for many years.  She took great pride in her home and passersby took note of her beautiful yard, full of flowers and landscaping details.  She was a supervisor for many years at the Toastmaster Clock factory in Laurinburg before it closed in the late 1990’s.  At about that same time, she, and her Husband James, had the opportunity to purchase McNair Town and Country Store in downtown Laurinburg.  Since then, she has been a fixture at the front of the store, always delivering the best customer experience to all that dawn its doors.   

Her family was her heart.  Betty loved spending time with her family and cooked large country feasts on holidays and other special occasions.  The family loved gathering around her table and enjoying time together.   

Betty attended Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Marshville faithfully for more than 50 years.  When her heath impeded her ability to attend services, she enjoyed worshiping via Zoom.   

She was a wonderful wife, mother to her children, second mother to her children’s spouses, grandmother to her 5 grandchildren and to her great grandchild.  She will be sorely missed by her friends and family that love her so!   

The family will hold a visitation at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium on Thursday evening, September 28 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00 am at New Hillside Memorial Park.
