Betty Stone Parnell, 92, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Scottish Pines Rehabilitation and Nursing.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Laurinburg First Baptist officiated by Rev. Jeanne Baucom. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private.
Born on February 18, 1930, in Robeson County, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Sadie Almann Stone. Betty worked as a secretary to the Dean of History and Social Sciences for 21 years at St. Andrews University and also later worked as an examiner for the Department of Motor Vehicles for 11 years. Betty was a long-time member of the Pilot Club of Laurinburg, joining in 1976 and she was blessed with many friends. She loved playing bridge, volunteered at The Helping Hand, was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg, and was a strong supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
She is survived by her nephew, Johnny Deaton; and her niece, Marie Deaton. She is preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Parnell; her sister, Louise Deaton; and her nephew, Jimmy Deaton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
