Archie Preston Craven, 79, of Troy passed away Friday, March 15, 2024 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Tony Sedberry. Burial will follow at Stoney Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Mt. Gilead. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service.
Born April 14, 1944, in Randolph County, he was a son of the late William Henry and Edna Victoria Kearns Craven. Archie was a rock hound and gold panner. He had taught lapidary and gold panning at Montgomery Community College. He was a former construction superintendent for Jerry Holder Construction for over 20 years and retired from Albemarle Oil Company as a construction superintendent. Archie loved fishing; especially crappie fishing, gardening, frog gigging, catching reptiles, working with his bees, and collecting arrowheads.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Geraldine Turner Craven of the home; daughter, Dorothy Victoria Craven of Troy; son, Archie Preston Craven of Mt. Gilead; brothers, Wade Craven of Randleman, and Norman Craven (Judy) of Ramseur; sister, Jane Teague of Bennett; step-children, Carl Sisk and Ronald Sisk of Mt. Gilead, Kenneth Sisk of Troy, Elizabeth Deaton of Crossville, TN, and Diane Reavis of Salisbury; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his special companion, “Lucky”. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marlean Craven and step-son, Donald Sisk.
