Winniford Simmons, 80, of Wilmington and formerly of Laurinburg died Wednesday, May 20, 2009.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hillside Memorial Park officiated by the Rev. C. F. McDowell, III and the Rev. Dr. Mike Collier.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie Stoval Thomas Simmons; a son, Winn Simmons and wife, Carol of Laurinburg; a daughter, Kathy S. Collier and husband, Mike of Lexington; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Born July 16, 1928 in Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Foster Holmes and Reba McDonald Simmons and was the former owner and operator of Simmons Lumber Company. He was also a Mason and Shriner.
