Winnie McKenzie Robinson, of Laurinburg, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 7, 2026; passing away peacefully surrounded by her family that she loved dearly.

Winnie was born in Laurinburg, NC, on September 25, 1949; the firstborn daughter of Harold and Alice McKenzie. She spent her early years on the McKenzie family farm, where she grew up surrounded by the love of her parents and her brother, Mark, and sister, Kitty. Those early years helped shape the woman she would become — a woman who treasured family, valued hard work, and loved deeply.

Following her graduation from Laurinburg High School in 1967, Winnie answered a calling to care for others and graduated from the Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh, NC, in 1971, as a registered nurse.

Winnie was known throughout her nursing career for her compassion, dedication, and thoroughness in caring for her patients. She spent the majority of her nursing career at Scotland Memorial Hospital, serving for many years as a labor and delivery nurse. She had the privilege of assisting in the delivery of thousands of babies, bringing new life into the world and caring for countless mothers and families along the way. She concluded her nursing career as a public health nurse with the Scotland County Health Department.

While nursing was an important part of Winnie’s life, those who knew her best knew that her greatest treasures were her faith and her family. In 2003, Winnie married the love of her life, Rev. Donnie Robinson. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, travel, and precious time with their family. Winnie especially cherished her grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as “Nee Nee”. To them, she was not simply a grandmother; she was a source of love, comfort, wisdom, and joy. Her family was one of the greatest blessings of her life, and she made sure they always knew how deeply they were loved.

Winnie’s faith was woven into the fabric of her life. She loved the Lord and sought to live her life in a way that reflected that love. Her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and willingness to care for others were a testimony to the faith she carried with her. Though her family grieves her absence, they find comfort in the promise that this separation is not forever. They rejoice in knowing that Winnie is now in the presence of her Savior, free from pain and sorrow, and experiencing the eternal hope she believed in.

Winnie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Harold and Alice McKenzie, and her son, Matt Jenkins.

She leaves behind a family who will forever carry her memory in their hearts: her devoted husband, Rev. Donnie Robinson of Laurinburg, NC; her brother, Mark McKenzie of Laurinburg, NC; her sister, Kitty Adams (Richard) of Rockingham, NC; her children, Ben Jenkins (Susan) of Franklin, TN, and Chloe Cook (Jason) of Aynor, SC; her stepson, Brent Robinson (Lindsey) of Laurinburg, NC; and her beloved Chihuahua, Tiny. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren — Sam Jenkins, AvaGrace Jenkins, Noah Jenkins, Alice Cook and Remi Robinson — as well as many special nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.

Winnie’s life was a life of service, love, faith, and family. She spent her career caring for others, but her greatest legacy will be the love she poured into the people around her. The memories she created, the lives she touched, the babies she helped bring into the world, and the family she loved so fiercely will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

A celebration of Winnie’s life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium located at 305 E. Church Street, Laurinburg, NC 28535. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private committal service for the family will follow the celebration of life.

Though her family’s hearts are heavy with the sorrow of saying goodbye, they are comforted by the assurance that this goodbye is only temporary. Winnie has finished her earthly journey and is now home. Her love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her family will carry her memory forward until the day they are reunited again. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:21
