Williamson Albert "Bill" Byrd, Jr., 88, died suddenly Wednesday, February 5, 2014.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Bowen Byrd; his daughters, Barbara B. Helms (Roland) of Charlotte and Terry B. Williams (Mitchell) of Laurinburg; his brothers, Buddy Byrd of Columbia, SC, Jerry Byrd of Charleston, SC, Bobby Byrd of Florence, SC, and B. T. Byrd of Laurinburg; four grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Adley Byrd and sister, Evelyn Mew.
Born April 26, 1925 in Dillon, SC, he served in the US Navy, and later began a career in the propane distribution business when Mr. McNair, his Sunday school teacher, offered him a job with Peoples Gas & Oil Company. There he not only served customers with deliveries, but also in repairs and customer service.
Bill loved being with people and especially his family. He always had a garden and when possible enjoyed fishing.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
