William J. Smith, Jr., 81, died Friday, August 22, at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church officiated by the Rev. Michael Price. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Morgan Smith; a son, Preston Eugene Smith of Laurinburg; a daughter, Barbara Smith and husband, Gary of Laurinburg; a brother, Howard Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Deloris Abney of Shallotte; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Born April 26, 1927 in McColl, SC he was a son of the late William J. and Nora West Smith. He served with the US Marines in World War II, and later worked at the Patricia textile plant for many years before working at Sinclair Lumber Company. He live at Ocean Isle Beach from 1984-1990 and enjoyed fishing from the pier.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
