William Paschal Stewart Jr., 77, of Wagram, died on Sunday, April 15, 2017 at Duke University Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Montpelier Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. John Baker.
Born June 20, 1940 in Harnett County, he was a son of the late William Paschal and Ruby Moore Stewart. Paschal mentored countless students during his many years teaching biology and coaching basketball at Wagram and Scotland High Schools. After retiring from public school, he served for several more years as Headmaster at Flora McDonald Academy. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending quality time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Blue McKinnon Stewart of Laurinburg; son, William Paschal Stewart III (Carol) of Winston Salem; daughter, Megan Stewart Walter (Jon) of Wake Forest; sister, Betty Jean Smith (Jim) of Salisbury; brother, Keith Stewart of Coats; brother-in-law, Thomas McKinnon (Sharon) of Laurinburg; and four grandchildren, Adair Stewart, McKinnon Stewart, Stewart Walter and Mason Blue Walter.
A visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
