William "Bill" Douglas Edge, Jr.

April 14, 1960 — May 14, 2025

Laurinburg

William “Bill” Edge Jr., born in Scotland County, North Carolina on April 14, 1960, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong public servant. He passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. Bill was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others.

Bill and his beloved wife, Brenda Johnson Edge, made their home in Laurinburg, North Carolina, where they shared 43 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised a loving family filled with warmth, laughter, and faith. He was a proud father to Kasie and James.

Known affectionately as “Papa” by his cherished grandchildren — Jaxon, Ashlynn, Maddux, Jonah, and Addyson — Bill treasured every moment spent with them. To many others, he was lovingly known as “Papa Bill,” a testament to the open heart and welcoming spirit he shared with all.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, William Douglas "Doug" Edge Sr., his mother, Maxine Stone Edge, his father-in-law James Thomas "JT" Johnson, and his mother-in-law Betty Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Brenda, children Kasie Parker (Roger), James Fay (Ashley), and his grandchildren; brother Steve Edge (Pearline) of Lumberton; and was deeply loved by many aunts and uncles — including Donald Edge (Judy) of Wagram, Frank Edge (Martha) of Wagram, Carlton Edge (Sylvia) of Hamlet, and Emily Chiles (Paul) of Ft. Mill, SC — and many beloved cousins.

A dedicated public servant, Bill spent 45 years working across multiple departments, including fire services, EMS, the Sheriff’s Department, and the 911 communications center. His servant's heart and unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of others made a lasting impact on his community.

For more than 20 years, Bill was a faithful member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church, where he found strength in his faith and fellowship with others. He took great pride in giving back to the church through his handyman and groundskeeping skills, always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Outside of his service, Bill found joy in the simple pleasures of life — fishing, gardening, and traveling. He also leaves behind his loyal dog, Ellie, who brought him comfort and companionship.

In lieu of flowers, the Edge family requests that donations be made to Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Bill’s memory. Contributions can be sent to: PO Box 367, Laurel Hill, NC 28351.

A visitation will be held at Laurel Hill Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, officiated by Pastor Gregory Baines and Brother Don Malpass. All who knew and loved Bill are invited to attend and celebrate a life so beautifully lived.

Bill’s legacy of service, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of those he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
