William D. “Swede” Thompson, 66, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Autumn Care of Biscoe. Swede was a native of Montgomery County born to the late Wesley Oren and Frances Tucker Thompson of Troy.
He graduated from West Montgomery High School and was a retired superintendent with Myrick Construction. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, Troy.
Swede was known for his love of baseball, softball, NASCAR, golf, and for his competitive spirit, as well as his famous white pancake hat. Swede also loved to cook and friends and neighbors often requested his delicious pepper relish, pepper jelly, BBQ sauce, chicken dumplings, and potato soup.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 3, 2019, at 10:00 am at Star Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cotton Creek Road, Star, NC.
Survivors include his son, Brandon Thompson (Megan) and granddaughters Kaylee and Allie, all of Troy, son, Matthew Thompson of Seagrove; brother Warren (Cathy) Thompson; nieces Paige Roberts (Kenny) and Elizabeth Thompson (Wesley); great nephew, Owen Callicutt, all of Troy; his fiancé, Kathy W. Harris of Star; and his extended family, Mark, Beth, and Henry Harris, all of Star; John, Barbara, and Chris Jackson (Suzanne), all of Sanford, and Teresa “TC” (Monty) Walls of North Myrtle Beach; aunt, Jean Thompson, of Mocksville, and several cousins.
