William Buck Bowers

William “Buck” Leon Bowers, 73, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiated by Rev. Joe Beane. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the church prior to the service.

Buck was born on February 7, 1948 to the late William “Bill” Edgar and Lena Mae Smith Bowers in Richmond County. He loved fishing and spending hours with his goats and farming. He drove a truck all his life and spent the last 20 years at Mountaire Farms as a truck driver, where he retired.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis G. Bowers of the home; daughter, Jackie Cook (Joe) of Candor; five grandchildren, Scott, Sara, Kresta, Nick, and Mojo; four great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Wood (Carl), Irene Richardson, Joyce Tucker (Jimmie) all of Ellerbe; brothers, Ronnie Bowers (Debbie), Jerry Bowers (Ginjo) all of Ellerbe, and Jim Bowers (Becky) of Rockingham; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Helen Gillis; and brothers, Cleveland Bowers, Melvin Bowers, and Lee Bowers.
