Mr. William Angus "Bill" McGirt, 72, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Morrison Manor.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. C. F. McDowell, III. Burial with military honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Adams McGirt, three sons, Wayne McGirt of Palm Desert, CA, Chris McGirt and Rodney McGirt of Scottsdale, AZ; two daughters, Mandy Howard of Greenville, SC and Ginger Townsend of Laurinburg; a brother, John McGirt of Laurinburg; three sisters, Norma Kennerly of Denver, NC, Betty Smith of Laurinburg, and Patricia Hardee of Fischers, IN; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda McGirt and a sister, Mary Katherine McGirt.
Born March 5, 1937 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late John H. And Minnie Ellen Shepherd McGirt. Bill served faithfully with the US Navy and was a licensed electrician.
He worked as an electrician with Woodard Company, Scotland Memorial Hospital, and Stevens as well as operating Scotland Electric.
Bill devoted much of his time to assisting substance abusers, as a staff member with Amethyst at Scotland Memorial Hospital, a counselor with the criminal justice program, and an active member of AA. He also assisted with Scotland County Mental Health.
An active member of the First Baptist Church, Bill served ad a Deacon, on the properties committee, the TV ministry, and active in Sunday school.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
