William S. (Bill) Jones, Sr

Mr. William S. "Bill" Jones, Sr. , 83, of Laurinburg died Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Moore Regional Hospital. Born April 3, 1925 in Garnett, S.C., he was the son of the late Charles and Elease Jones. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and had a long career in railroading retiring as Vice President of Laurinburg and Southern Railroad.
Mr. Jones was an active member of First Baptist Church, Laurinburg serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a Rotary Club member and served as past chairman of the Scotland County United Way campaign.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce and his children Cynthia Brewer and husband Harold of Lake Tillery, William S. Jones, Jr. and wife Cindy of Norwood, Dan Jones and wife Ellen of Laurinburg; grandchildren Drs. Scott Brewer and wife Tanya of Rockingham, Brett Brewer and wife Jeanette of Richmond Hill, Georgia, Spencer Jones and wife Teresa of Falls Church, Virginia, Benjamin Jones of Arlington, Virginia, Daniel Jones, Jr. of Laurinburg and Melinda Jones of Raleigh; great-grand children Joshua Brewer and Caleb William Brewer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Hodge Jones.
Visitation will be at McDougald Funeral Home on Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. –9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Laurinburg with burial following at Hillside Cemetery.
The family will receive guest at other times at the home of Dan and Ellen Jones, 12821 Lennox Avenue.
