Frank Burton, 96, formerly of Laurel Hill passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Scotia Village.
A graveside service with military rites will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Gibson Family Cemetery, 1 mile south of US 74 on Old Wire Rd., Laurel Hill. The family will have time of fellowship before and following the service.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Nassif (Ed) of Laurel Hill; his grandsons, Burt Nassif (Elizabeth) of Mount Holly, and Mark Nassif (Randi) of Matthews; his great grandchildren, Aliya Nassif and Ward Nassif of Mount Holly; his nieces, Ellen Ward (Buzz) of Graham, Sue Davies (John) of Sterling, VA, and Julia Kruger of Seattle, WA; his nephews, Larry Gibson (Elizabeth) of Matthews, Garry Gibson (Cindy) of Nashville; and David Holmes (Gaye) of Burke, VA.
Born August 7, 1918 in Reidsville, he was a son of the late William Franklin Burton and Ellen Beatrice Witcher. He was a decorated US Army veteran, Sgt. First Class, and a participant at Normandy, Northern France, and German campaigns. He also served as an active member of the Church in the Pines where he was a Deacon and Elder for many years. In his spare time he loved being with his family, hunting, fishing, playing cards with friends, and spending time at the beach. He was also a long time postal carrier in Laurel Hill.
