Mary Virginia Buhler "Ginnie" Decker died on April 28, 2012 at her home.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church officiated by her son-in-law, Reverend Dwight H. Williams. A visitation will be held prior to the service at the church at 1:00 PM.
Ginnie was born on September 16, 1931, the daughter of Reverend W.R. and Frances Buhler. She graduated from Flora MacDonald College in 1954 where she met and married Dr. Rodger W. Decker. Ginnie was a faithful servant of God and a charter member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church where she served in many positions including Elder. For many years she taught fourth grade at South Scotland School. Ginnie was a gifted vocalist and shared her musical talent by singing in weddings, funerals, cantatas, and other special musical occasions. Among her many passions were playing competitive tennis, taking photographs, appreciating nature, especially birds, participating in the Democratic Women, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, teaching swimming lessons, and enjoying family times at her Florida home, Montreat and the NC beaches.
Ginnie is survived by her husband of 58 years of marriage, Dr. Rodger W. Decker, daughters, Susan Williams (Dwight) and Martha Decker (Bob Ryan); sons, Tim and Rodger Decker (Melissa); grandchildren, Hillary and Monroe Williams, Luke and Maddie Phillips, Lee, Logan and Lane Decker. A part of Ginnie's legacy will be her commitment by the words of the prophet Micah, "to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God."
