Laurinburg
Mrs. Virginia Tilley Blalock, 87, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Scotia Village.
A Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Laurinburg officiated by the Rev. Ralph Brown. A Visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mrs. Blalock was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful friend. She is survived by a son, Ronnie Blalock of Laurinburg; three daughters, Linda Stone of Laurinburg, Carolyn Zakrzewski of Durham, and Anne Beverly of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Ralph Tilley of Kingsport, TN; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Born January 8, 1922 in Granville County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Bryan and Lucille Fleming Tilley. She married Ernest Blalock in the summer of 1942 and moved to Laurinburg in 1948. Since that time, Mrs. Blalock was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church in Laurinburg where she helped in the nursery, was a member of the JOY Club, the Betsy Sanford Sunday School class, and Circle Leader of Circle #9. She was also a member of the Young at Heart Club in Laurinburg.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ernest Blalock, a brother Richard Tilley, and a sister, Norma Veazey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests the memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 101 West Church Street, Laurinburg, NC 28352, or to the Humane Society of Scotland County, 1401 West Blvd., Laurinburg, NC 28352.
