Virgil Korona

Virgil Laurence Korona, 81, passed away December 1, 2016 at Harbor House at Ocala in Dunnellon, FL.

Virgil was born May 19, 1935, the son of John Paul [Michael] Korona and Clara Delores Damer, at their farmhouse in Livingston Township, Michigan (between Gaylord & Vanderbilt). His paternal grandparents immigrated from Poland and, his maternal grandparents from Germany, making him and his siblings the second generation born in the United States.

Virgil and Doris Fay (Sherman) Helms married November 25, 1981 in Ocala, Florida.

In 1954 he graduated from rural Vanderbilt Area School; there were nine Seniors in his graduating class.

Also in 1954, he joined the Michigan National Guard 125 Infantry Regiment based in Camp Grayling, Michigan. He served as Company Clerk. Sergeant Virgil L. Korona was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army Reserve on January 1, 1962.

Virgil was highly motivated and self-studied to become an electrician. On Jun 16, 1967 the Michigan State Electrical Administration Board certified him as a Licensed Electrical Contractor / Class I Contractor / Class II Master Electrician. He later created “Korona Electric” and took great pride as the sole owner and employee.

In 1972 Virgil, his first wife and two children moved from Gaylord, Michigan to Ocala, Florida.

Hobbies included: Amateur ham radio operator, trains and planes (actual and working scale models). He was a single engine small aircraft pilot.

He is survived by one brother, Sylvester; and four sisters, Catherine, Annastasia, Darlene and Betty.

He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage: Dale (Jenny) Korona and Joanne (Aaron) Denton; former spouse, Barbara; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father John (1914-1954), his mother Clara (1916-2002), brother Valentine (1938-1938) and brother Chester (1947-2013).
