Viola Goins Strickland

Mrs. Viola Goins Strickland, 94, died Saturday, May 29, at Scotia Village.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

She is survived by six sons, Miller Strickland and wife, Geraldine of Bennettsville, Donnie Strickland and wife, Deavie, Bracy Strickland and wife, Velma, Colden Strickland and wife, Bessie, and Charles Strickland of Laurinburg; Tracy Strickland of Charlotte; two daughters, Margaret Quick and husband, Charles and Nettie Strong and husband, Jerry of Laurinburg; 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Born July 16, 1915 in Robeson County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Lilly Epps Goins and widow of the late Milton Strickland. Viola worked in the fields, and cooked three meals a day for her family, that proudly remembers they raised much of what they ate. She sewed and made clothes out of flour sacks, enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and reading her Bible.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
