Mr. Thurman Archie Willis, 89, of Scotia Village died Friday, March 30, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. L. D. Kimrey. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Reaves Willis; a son, Jim Willis and wife, Frances of Laurinburg; a daughter, Anne Todd and husband, Charles of Laurinburg; six grandchildren, Suzanne Todd Burton and husband, Chris of Rome, GA, Jay Todd of Laurinburg, Emily Todd Smith and husband, Brent of Summerfield, Thomas Willis of Ocean Isle, McBryde Willis and Hallie Willis of Laurinburg; five great grandchildren, Julia Burton, Meredith Burton, Andrew Todd, Joe Todd, and Grayson Smith.

Born August 21, 1916 in Robeson County, he the son of the late John Hoke and Lula Baxley Willis. In 1950 he joined friend, Erwin Adams, to form Adams & Willis Firestone Home and Auto Supply in Laurinburg where he continued to work until retirement. He is a past president of the Laurinburg/Scotland County Chamber of Commerce, an active member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, on several church committees, and as a Sunday school teacher. He was also a past president of the Laurinburg Lions Club, and past chairman of the Laurinburg Zoning Board.

Since he retired he has been active visiting nursing homes and homes of homebound friends. He was also active in "The Morning Drinking Club" that meets mornings at Captain Larrya
