Rev. Dr. Robert M. Urie, 86, of Laurinburg, formerly of West End, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 at Scotia Village.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 9, 2016 at West End Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Jane Love. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the Crawford Center at the church.

He was born on September 13, 1930 in Glover, Vt. to the late Foster and Bessie Stone Urie. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elsie Urie and son, Daniel.

Upon leaving the family farm, he then dedicated his life to serving people and touching lives as a husband, father, grandfather, counselor, minister and friend.  He worked through affiliations in the community and the Presbyterian Synod in both North Carolina and Georgia. His favorite hobbies in retirement were time with family and flying airplanes with his fellow aeromodelers.

He is survived by a large family including two sisters in Vermont and their families; his children Linda Barnett (Mickey), Carol Pate (Ben), Steve Urie (Laura Beth), Nancy Thrasher (Terry) and daughter-in-law, Wendy Urie; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
