Teresa Butler walked on December 26, 2023 in her home town, Laurinburg, North Carolina at the age of 63. Teresa was born on May 5, 1960 to Alma Fronie Scott and Edward Lee Butler Jr. She was the youngest of 9 siblings—4 boys and 5 girls.
The family will hold a private service.
Teresa's journey through life was marked by the blessings of motherhood. She was a devoted mother to two wonderful children from separate marriages: her son, Eric and daughter, Jordan. Her children were the centers of her world and she raised them with enduring love and the courage to embrace life fully.
Teresa was a trendsetter—both personally and professionally. She was one of the most stylish people any of us knew, always showing off excellent cuts and color combinations with her outfits. Professionally, Teresa worked as one of the only woman insurance agents in town during the early 1980s, where she carved out her place in a male-dominated world with ferocity and fearlessness. She taught her children to be as fearless as she was, a lesson they will always carry in their hearts.
Though she was the youngest in her family, Teresa was a born caregiver who was close to her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She was always willing to open her home to family and friends. She made her house a place for her family and friends to gather in joy, to celebrate holidays and birthdays, hosting pool parties and barbecues in between.
Teresa was a fierce, loyal, and loving daughter, sister, mother, relative, and friend. She was a kind human well versed in the love language of gifts. Almost everyone she met probably has a gift from Teresa, who was always ready to provide exactly what you needed with thoughtfulness and generosity. She always had a child-like curiosity and joy about her. She brought every room she entered alive with her astounding energy, and usually left each room tidier than she found it.
Teresa Butler is survived by her siblings Carolyn, Betty, Audrey (Mike), Vivian, and Russell (Brigella) and sister-in-law Sharon; her children Eric (Irma) and Jordan; and grandchild Joshua. Though Teresa's absence leaves a void in our hearts, we find solace in the cherished memories we shared, in the lessons she taught, and in the love she gave unconditionally. We find even more solace knowing that she is reuniting with her momma, daddy, brothers—Eddie, Jennings, and Marshall—and so many loved ones on the other side. And above anything else: we take comfort in all the ways she will be with us still.
