A funeral service will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Lomax Memorial Baptist Church in Troy, officiated by Rev. Joshua James Jones. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born on November 29, 1958, in Davidson County, to Hazel Ryder VunCannon and the late Rev. Darrell Wayne VunCannon. Tammy's professional life was marked by her dedication to serving others. She worked as a financial aid administrator at Montgomery County Community College, where she was known for her unwavering commitment to supporting students in their educational pursuits. Her service extended to the Veterans Administration Services, where she applied her skills and compassion to assist those who had served our nation.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Tammy's passions were numerous and varied. She was the owner and operator of Get Fit Stay Fit Ministry, where she combined her love for health and her deep Christian faith. A true servant to God, Tammy's ministry was a reflection of her servant's heart. She embraced everyone she met with open arms, and her warmth was felt by all who had the pleasure of crossing her path.

Tammy's love for her family was unparalleled. She relished in the joys of being a grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her grandchildren. Her farm and animals were a source of great happiness, and her clients were not just clients but part of her extended family. Tammy's approach to life was simple yet profound: love generously, help willingly, and live faithfully.

Those who knew Tammy would describe her as faith-filled, spirited, and loving—a true testament to the way she lived her life. Her spirit was infectious, and her ability to see the good in everyone and every situation was a gift that she shared freely. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and interactions with the world around her.

She is survived by her son, Brian Lewis (Jennifer) of South Carolina; step-sons, Joseph Dale Jones (Tracey), Jason Wayne Jones (Dale), and Joshua James Jones (Lindsey); brothers, Keith VunCannon (Nancy) of Hendersonville, Marty VunCannon, and Danny VunCannon (Diane) of Troy; sister, Remelle Childers (Dale) of Rockingham; and grandchildren, Sophia Lewis, Brennen Lewis, Isaiah Jones, Elijah Jones, Kensley Jones, Damien Clark, Layanna Jones, Honor Jones, and Saylor Jones. Tammy was preceded in death by her husband, Frankie "Hawk" James Owens, who was her partner in life and love.
