Susan Stancil Plyler, 62, of Riverton, N.C. died Monday, August 15, 2016 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Wagram, N.C.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Brent Plyler; her parents, Ray and Muriel Mercer Stancil; sisters, Sharon Howard (Brad) and Melissa Pflaeging; brother-in-law, William Plyler (Sally); and sister-in-law, Ella Frantz (Stuart). She was a loving aunt to nine nieces and nephews.

Susan was born on February 8, 1954 in Wilson, NC. She graduated from St. Mary’s College in 1974 and Meredith College in 1976. She worked in the title insurance industry for over 20 years.  She married Brent on June 1, 1985, her high school sweet heart and the love of her life. Together they lived in Fayetteville, NC, Roanoke, VA, Atlanta, GA, Wilson, NC and eventually settled in what would become their haven and home for the last 18 years, their beloved Riverton.

Susan will be remembered for her larger than life spirit, her outspoken personality and her quick wit. She always spoke her mind and never backed down in a debate. Those who knew her well will also remember her softer side, the side that was fiercely loyal and steadfast to those she loved, including her two wire fox terriers, Georgia and Hayley Mills, but especially her love and best friend, Brent. Her friends and family will miss her impromptu gatherings on the front porch, her boisterous stories and most assuredly, her famous banana pudding-the prized dessert at the annual Fourth of July family picnic. Susan approached her five and a half year battle with breast cancer the same way she approached her life, with grace, grit and a healthy dose of humor. Susan loved her life with Brent, family and friends in Riverton, and she lived it to the fullest.
