Sibyl Strickland Wright, 95, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Scotia Village in Laurinburg, North Carolina.
Born in Sylvania, Georgia on June 14, 1918, to the late Lillie Mae and Clifford Strickland, Sibyl lived most of her life in Georgia and Virginia. Her husband, Claude Wright, died in 1974.
Sibyl earned a B.S. in Education from Georgia Southern University. Her career was spent teaching elementary school, working in hospital administration, and personnel management.
Sibyl volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Girl Scouts. She was a Master Bridge player and enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, and traveling. She was a member of Annandale United Methodist Church.
Sibyl is survived by a daughter, Frances Wright Norton (Lawrence Norton) of Bennettsville, SC; a son, William Alexander Wright of Port Republic, MD; a granddaughter, Caroline Norton of Arlington, VA; and a grandson, Smith Norton of Denver, CO. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in Sylvania, Georgia in June.
