Shirley Hall Smith, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born September 27, 1936, in Davidson County, to the late Albert Lee and Lillie Luther Hall. Shirley's journey was one of devotion, joy, and unwavering commitment to her family and God. Shirley was a devout Christian lady; dedicating more than three decades of her life to teaching Sunday School at First Wesleyan Church of Troy, where she was a loyal member. Her commitment to her church was a testament to her loving and faith-filled nature, which guided her throughout her life.
Shirley graduated from Troy High School. Soon she began working at Sprint Telephone Company and retired after 27 years of dedicated service. She treasured family vacations, whether it was feeling the sand between her toes at the beach or breathing in the fresh mountain air. These moments with her loved ones were the highlights of her life. Traveling with her sister was another source of happiness, creating memories that lasted a lifetime. Shirley also enjoyed working in her yard and going shopping with her family or friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, C. Gerald Smith; brother, Johnny Hall; and sister, Wilma Roberts.
Shirley's love for her family was immeasurable. She leaves behind a legacy and cherished memories to her daughter, Andrea Smith Bowles; sons, Gerald Scott (Scotty) Smith and his wife Patsy, and Michael Ray Smith and his wife Lisa, all of Troy; grandchildren, Ashley Haywood, Wesley Smith (Jessie), Brooke Howell (Kelley), Courtney Cox (Ryan), Lauren Hill (Colt), along with her great-grandchildren, Braelyn, Ryleigh, Sadie, Chandler, Miranda, Everleigh, Brantley, and a great granddaughter on the way. Bonus grandchildren, Brian Hicks (Christy), Wendy Hicks (Tom) and bonus great grandchildren Clara, Carver and Cash.
The family will receive friends at First Wesleyan Church of Troy, Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., other times at the home. A funeral service will be held Monday, July 1, 2024 at 11 :00 a.m. at the First Wesleyan Church of Troy, officiated by Dr. Edward Lindsey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
