Shirley Josephine (Holland) Wicker

Shirley Holland Wicker, 89, passed away on December 20, 2023, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 6, 2024 at St. Paul Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Eleazar Partida.  Burial will follow at Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford, NC.  The family will receive friends in the church one hour prior to the service.

Born on October 18, 1934, in Martinsville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James Holland and Nell Gaines Holland.

Shirley dedicated her life to her family, her church, and her community with unwavering devotion.  She was a devoted member of St. Paul Methodist Church, where her faith flourished. She lived her Christianity with every act of kindness and every word of encouragement. Her generous spirit was also evident through her volunteer work at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Her interests were as vast as her heart. A very strong Christian, Shirley adored animals and babies, finding joy in the simplicity and innocence they represented.  Her hands were rarely still, as she was always immersed in knitting, crafting, or cross-stitching—creating beautiful pieces.  Shirley loved to cook and her social nature led her to forge countless friendships.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Wicker Clay (Jack) and Johanna Carole Wicker, both of Maxton, NC; grandchildren, Morgan Moore (Brennan) of Taylorsville, NC, Nicholas C. Gosey of Gainesville, FL, and Bryant K. Wicker, III (Courtney) of Taylorsville, NC; and great grandchild, Baker Moore of Taylorsville, NC.   She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Bryant K. Wicker, Sr., her son, Bryant K. Wicker, Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Cilicia R. Wicker.
